What is Dry Eye?
Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough good-quality tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly.
A healthy tear film has three important components:
💧 Water layer – keeps the eye moist
🧴 Oil/lipid layer – prevents tears from evaporating
🫧 Mucus layer – helps tears spread evenly over the eye
A very common cause is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). The meibomian glands in the eyelids produce the oily layer of the tear film. When these glands become blocked or their oil becomes thick, tears evaporate rapidly, causing dryness and irritation.
How does ThermaEye Plus work?
The controlled light pulses are applied around the eyelids and can:
- Warm the meibomian glands → helps soften thickened meibum and improve its flow.
- Improve meibomian gland function → helps restore the protective oily layer of the tear film.
- Reduce abnormal eyelid blood vessels → potentially reduces inflammatory signals around the glands.
- Reduce eyelid inflammation and blepharitis, which can contribute to MGD and dry eye.
- Improve tear-film stability → tears remain on the eye longer and evaporate less quickly.
